What is the working principle of electrolytic polishing?

Electropolishing is actually a method of polishing the surface of metal by the principle of electrochemical anodic dissolution.

The anode is workpiece is polished, the tool electrode cathode is made of lead plates and the machined surface of the workpiece with similar shape, form a certain electrolytic clearance and workpiece. When DC is applied to the electrolyte, the surface of the anode is dissolved by electrochemistry. The surface of the workpiece is covered by a layer of dissolved anodic metal and electrolyte. The viscosity is very high and the conductivity is very low. The surface of the workpiece is uneven, the mucous membrane of the concave part is thicker, the resistance is larger, and the mucous membrane in the convex part is thinner and the resistance is smaller. Therefore, the current density of the convex part is faster than that of the concave part. After a period of time, the surface of the uneven metal is gradually leveled, so as to get the same effect as mechanical polishing.
